Privacy Policy

Your information is a responsibility, not a commodity.

We collect only what we need, use it only for the reasons we describe here, and protect it with the same discipline we apply to our own systems.

This policy explains, in plain language, what information we handle, why we handle it, and the choices you have.

Introduction

Why this policy exists

JieLabs builds systems, products, and research that help organizations operate more clearly. That work depends on trust, and trust depends on transparency. This policy is that transparency—a plain-language description of how we treat personal information when you visit our website, contact us, or work with us.

This policy covers the website jielabs.com and the services we describe there. It applies to information collected when you browse, when you reach out to us, and when we work together. Specific products or engagements may be described by their own supplementary terms; where those terms exist, they complement this policy rather than replace it.

We review and update this policy as our work evolves. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, draw your attention to the change.

01

Information we collect

We collect as little as possible, and only what the work actually requires.

The information we handle depends on how you interact with us. In general, it falls into the categories below.

  • Information you provideName, email address, organization, and anything you share in a contact form, an email, or a conversation. This includes inquiries, project descriptions, and feedback.
  • Information we collect automaticallyBasic usage data when you browse this website—such as the pages you visit, the device and browser you use, and approximate region. This helps us understand how the site is used and keep it working reliably.
  • Information from working relationshipsDetails needed to provide a service or build a system, including project records, support requests, and billing information. We only handle what the engagement requires.
  • Cookies and similar technologiesSmall files that help the site function and remember preferences. We explain these fully in the Cookies section below.

We do not buy, sell, or broker personal information. If we ever wanted to use information for a purpose you did not reasonably expect, we would ask first.

02

How we use your information

Your information is used for the purpose you gave it, and for the practical needs of running honest work.

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your questions, requests, and conversations.
  • Operate and improve this website and our products.
  • Provide the services and systems organizations engage us to build.
  • Support our research, in a way that does not reveal who you are.
  • Protect the security and integrity of our systems.
  • Meet legal, accounting, and record-keeping obligations.

From the moment information reaches us, protection is part of the process—not an afterthought. At the end of its lifecycle, information is deleted or made unidentifiable.

03

How we share information

We share as little as possible—and never for advertising.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles. The limited situations in which information may be shared are:

  • Service providersTrusted vendors who help us operate—such as hosting, email, or analytics—under contracts that limit what they may do with the information.
  • Legal obligationsWhen we are required to by law, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or legal compliance.
  • Business transitionsIf JieLabs or a division of it is involved in a merger, acquisition, or reorganization, information may transfer as part of that transition under the protections of this policy.
  • With your consentAnywhere we want to do something not described here, we will ask you first.

04

Data retention

We keep information only as long as it is genuinely needed.

Retention periods depend on why we hold information in the first place. Contact details are kept while a conversation is active and for a reasonable time afterward. Project and billing records are kept for as long as the engagement requires, plus the periods required by law. Website logs and analytics data are retained briefly and in limited form.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or render it unidentifiable. Where we must keep information for legal, accounting, or security reasons, we keep only what those reasons require and restrict access to it.

If you ask us to delete information and we are required to keep a copy for legal reasons, we will tell you what we must keep and why.

05

How we protect your information

Security is a process, not a checkbox. We treat protection as part of the systems themselves.

We apply organizational, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. Access to personal information is limited to the people who need it for their work. Our systems use encryption in transit and at rest, and we follow the same hardening discipline we recommend to the organizations we serve.

We maintain an incident response process so that, if something goes wrong, it is contained, understood, and communicated honestly. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we do not promise it is. We promise that protection is continuous, deliberate, and never treated as finished.

06

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files that help a site function and remember preferences.

We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:

  • EssentialNeeded for the site to work—such as remembering choices you make while browsing.
  • PreferenceRemember settings so you do not have to set them again.
  • AnalyticsAnonymous, aggregated information that helps us understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

Most browsers let you control or delete cookies through their settings. You can also configure your browser to signal a Do Not Track request; we respect those signals where they are sent. Disabling cookies may affect how the site behaves.

07

Your rights and choices

The information is yours. These rights exist to keep it that way.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete information we no longer have a legal or operational reason to keep.
  • Portability to receive your information in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent you previously gave.
  • Ask questions about anything in this policy, and get an honest answer.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@jielabs.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to verify who you are before acting, and we will not penalize you for asking. If you are in a jurisdiction with a supervisory authority, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with it.

08

Children’s privacy

Our sites and services are for organizations and adults.

This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the higher minimum age where local law requires it). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@jielabs.com and we will delete it as promptly as we are able.

09

International data transfers

Moving information between countries does not weaken our responsibility to protect it.

The systems and services that support this website may process information in locations outside the country where you are located. Where this happens, we rely on recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and equivalent protections, so that your information continues to be protected in accordance with this policy no matter where it is processed.

If you would like more detail about the mechanisms we use for a particular transfer, contact us and we will be glad to explain.

10

Contact us

If you have a question about this policy or about your information, ask us directly.

Questions, requests, and concerns are handled by real people. The fastest way to reach us is through the contact page, which lists the ways you can get in touch.

You can also write to privacy@jielabs.com. We aim to respond to every privacy request within a reasonable time, and we will never make you feel that asking was a problem.

A closing thought

Your trust is part of how we work.

If you ever wonder how we are handling information, ask. Clarity is the point of this policy.
